Yuxiang Sun (Chinese Name: 孫宇翔), Assistant Professor, CityU
Yuxiang Sun is an Assistant Professor with the Department of Mechanical Engineering, City University of Hong Kong (CityU). He was selected as the World’s Top 2% Most-Cited Scientists, by Stanford University, from 2022 to 2024, and was also selected as the 2022 Global Top Chinese Young Scholars in AI (Top 50 in AI+X), AI华人青年学者榜, by Baidu.
Yuxiang leads the Autonomous Systems Lab (ASL) (自主系統實驗室), which currently has 1 Postdoctoral Fellow, 9 Ph.D students, and 1 Research Assistant. The lab has been sponsored by various funding bodies since its establishment in 2020. It also received funding for two PhD positions from the highly competitive Hong Kong PhD Fellowship Scheme (HKPFS). Before joining CityU, he was a faculty member with the Department of Mechanical Engineering, The Hong Kong Polytechnic University (PolyU), Hong Kong, from 2020 to 2023. He worked as a research associate at the Robotics Institute, The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST), Hong Kong, from 2018 to 2020. He received the Ph.D degree from The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK), Hong Kong, in 2017, advised by Professor Max Qing-Hu Meng, the Master's degree from University of Science and Technology of China (USTC), Hefei, China, in 2012, and the bachelor's degree from Hefei University of Technology (HFUT), Hefei, China, in 2009.
Yuxiang has published more than 80 peer-reviewed research papers, with several being recognized as the ESI Highly Cited Papers, Most Cited Articles or Popular Articles in prestigious journals. His research work has been cited widely, leading to more than 3300 Google scholar citations with 30 H-index (as of November 2024). He received the Best Paper in Robotics award at the IEEE-ROBIO 2019 conference, and the Best Student Paper Finalist award at the IEEE-ROBIO 2015 conference. Yuxiang is a reviewer for many prestigious journals and conferences, such as TRO, RAL, TIV, TASE, RAS, TITS, TPAMI, IJCV, TIP, ICRA, IROS, RSS, etc. His research interests lie primarily in Robotics and AI, Autonomous Driving, Intelligent Transportation Systems, Autonomous Systems, Mobile Robotics, Quadruped Robotics, Automation in Construction, Robotic Perception, Autonomous Navigation, Vision-and-Language Navigation, etc.
